Programs at Barrington Academy - Enrichment

At Barrington Academy, we know that active children are likely to grow up to be active and healthy adults. We offer a variety of included and additional enrichment opportunities for children at our schools. We are invested in giving your child the best learning experience possible – mind and body!

Let’s Dance!

A perfect combination class for boys and girls! The technical and creative aspects of movement are taught through a combination of forms such as ballet, tap, jazz, and hip-hop. These techniques and activities help teach the proper shifting of weight, improve balance and coordination, and explore patterns in movement as well as rhythm (varies by location – specifics provided with tour).

PE / Soccer

These are the prime years for physical and mental development in children. Research indicates that good habits regarding physical activity, health and wellness begin early in life…as early as 3-5 years of age! Our program focuses on developing the skills and habits that will help your child succeed as they learn about sports, explore physical activity options, learn about nutrition, and the importance of taking care of our bodies. Additional benefits are lessons in teamwork, cooperation, coordination, control, and following directions (varies by location – specifics provided with tour).

Language Lessons : Spanish

A second language is more important than ever! Studies have shown that the minds of children are designed to assimilate languages most easily in the early years - particularly preschool.

Researchers believe that learning a second language can enhance general academic performance, cognitive development, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. In fact, learning a second language may even increase the amount of “gray matter” in the brain. Therefore, we make time in our program to include beginning language studies in Spanish for ages 2 and up. The class consists of one, 30 session per week full of songs, games and stories! !

NOTE: Families of bi-lingual households are encouraged to coordinate with their child’s teacher so that home languages are incorporated into the classroom on a daily basis to support the child’s development. While we may not be able to provide a fluent speaker in each class for each culture, we are ready to learn and do our best to support you and your child.

Martial Arts

The students begin by practicing basic patterns, moves, forms, board breaking, kicking, blocking and striking. These fundamental skills increase your child's physical coordination, flexibility, balance, and mental awareness. Our children's programs emphasize moral development as well. Children learn respect for themselves and others, greater concentration, and increased self-discipline and self-control. The self-discipline that develops as a result of learning and practicing the techniques usually carries over into other areas of the child's life. School performance often improves as your child learns to focus on objectives and to work toward an achievement. The self-discipline and self-respect that the martial arts develop can also provide your child with the skills and mindset necessary to resist peer pressure(varies by location – specifics provided with tour).

Tumbling & Gymnastics

Studies show that children learn cognitive skills more effectively in an environment that includes the body as well as the mind. Gymnastics and early childhood movement education is directly attributed to developing neurological pathways in students and promoting reading readiness. While the preschool gymnastics teacher runs about and plays with the little kids in her class, she is preparing her students for successful experiences in school. Children who have participated in movement education activities have longer attention spans, increased communication skills, general problem solving skills and improved self-esteem. (varies by location – specifics provided with tour).

Field Trips

Students ages 4+ will enjoy multiple opportunities to get out and about on learning excursions which explore a healthy variety of the experiences living near a city like Atlanta offers. We include everything from physical activity, recreation, historical, scientific, cultural, and environmental offerings year round. Safe transportation to and from the educational destination is provided and parents are encouraged to volunteer and participate. Sample excursions include: pumpkin patch/farm, roller skating, museums, petting zoos, parks, local attractions and much more…please share your ideas with your child’s teacher!

Swimming & Water Play (Summer)

On location swimming and water parks are available at various locations during the summer months. Locations without on-site facilities schedule learning excursions to local public pools (swim test required). Life guards are on duty and extra low student-teacher ratios are maintained for swimming trips. Swimming lessons may be available (varies by location – specifics provided with tour).

"Hello I am the mother of Michael and Stephanie Sell. We moved to the Atlanta area in July of 2010 and enrolled the twins at Barrington Academy that month. Being Military we have to move often so sadly they were not able to finish the full year at Barrington. We were transferred to Syracuse, New York just this April. When we went to the local Elementary school to begin enrollment for the twins to begin Kindergarten this coming up fall. The principal suggested they go ahead and test the twins to find out what level they were on, they passed with flying colors. They could write the ABC's, upper and lower case. Count to 100 and count by 10's, add and subtract numbers below 10, and knew sounds of the letters, rhymes, shapes and answered any question they were asked they were ahead of the kindergarden class by strides here in Syracuse, NY. We were told they would be able to go right into first grad this August with no issues at all. We would like to give a big thank to teachers at Barrington. They gave special love, attention and understanding to our twins and helped them to over archive to this level. We are very happy and miss you all."
