Be a Family with Purpose
- A family with purpose is one who knows who they are and what they stand for, as well as what they want out of life.
- A family with purpose has dreams and goals, as well as actual plans for how to make those dreams come true and achieve those goals.
- A family with purpose is also a family who takes time out to discuss the big things in life, including their dreams, fears, problems and questions, and who knows that they can talk about these things without fear of harshness, judgment, or derision.
- A family with purpose is a family who is also able to identify trouble spots and weaknesses and to acknowledge their problems and work together in order to find resolutions. Such a family deals with any issues or problems that may arise with confidence and open communication and tries to balance and manage their lives by working hard to ensure that outside factors do not control them, setting their own priorities and living their lives accordingly.

Traveling with Children: Not a Chore Anymore!
It's true that traveling with children, especially very young children, can be a challenge. However, by following just a few simple and easy tips, your trip will be relaxing and enjoyable for all of you.
- Keep your important documents like passports ,
tickets, boarding passes and birth certificates in a
place that's easy to grab so you don't have to
carry them. When traveling with children, you
need to keep your hands free for more important
things.
- Expect travel delays when traveling - they are
inevitable and with young children this can be a
nightmare. Have a bag of age-appropriate games,
books and puzzles to keep your children
entertained during delays.
- Arrive early to the airport or port. With security
measures being much higher now, it takes longer
for everyone to get through the line. Hanging
around in one of the shops for last minute souvenirs can mean a missed flight, travel delays and cranky kids.
- Get baby his or her own seat. Most airlines will allow you to hold your baby during the flight but that can be uncomfortable for both of you, especially on longer flights. Buy the extra seat and bring a comfortable baby seat.
- Check the stroller. Don't try to carry it back to your seat and have an already small area even more crowded. Leave it at the door of the airplane when you board and pick it up as you walk off.
- Research family-friendly airlines if you're planning to fly to your vacation destination. Some airlines will offer bottle warming services, changing tables and even staggered meals to allow parents to feed babies first and then enjoy their own meal.
All in all it's important to remember to take things in stride when traveling. Kids will be cranky for a variety of reasons, the hotel may not be up to snuff or any number of other issues may arise. The important thing to remember is you're all together and making family memories.

Separating Room for Siblings?
How to decide...
Some siblings want their own bedrooms; others prefer to double up. But ultimately it's up to the parents to decide whether it's time to give each child his or her own room.
Child-development experts say there's no hard and fast rule about children being roommates, so consider these factors:
* Personalities. Some siblings prefer each other's company and aren't as happy being alone.
* Development. Are they developmentally ready for their own room? This usually varies according to the ages and genders of the individual child.
* Independence. Living separately can give a child more independence and a greater sense of privacy, and it could lead to more freedom of personal expression when it comes to decorating.
* Bonding. Rooming together creates great bonds. Siblings learn about solving problems and compromise. They learn how to share. It also prepares them for life in college dorms or apartments later on.

Biggest Pine Cones Are At Barrington!
By Ms. Karen Palm
The Sugar Pine Cone is
grown from the Sugar Pine Tree
in the Pacific Coast. The Sugar
Pine Tree is the tallest and
biggest pine, with the largest
cones. The average height of the
tree is 269 feet and the
trunk diameter averages from
5 to 8 feet. Big huh?! These
trees grow in the mountains in Oregon and California. We
have some of these cones at Barrington Academy. They
originated from Ms. Palm's yard
when she lived in the Sierra
Nevada Mountains in California.
Stop by and see how big they
are !
