Pause BEFORE You Parent

"Words are like eggs dropped from great heights. You could no more call them back then ignore the mess they left when they fell." Steven Covey.

"How could you be so clumsy?!" The words seem to roll right out of your mouth. As you see your child grimace and shrink back from you, you wish there was away to take back your words because now you have a mess you need to clean up. I know... I have been at this place many times.

How do we avoid reacting in a negative way to our child's behavior? The first step is very simple yet so hard to do....PAUSE. Many of us don't realize that we have this choice. We blurt out things that make us wonder if our mother lives inside our heads. I love my mother, don't get me wrong but we often find ourselves saying things we grew up hearing.

Pausing is very powerful. It gives us a moment to be silent, to calm our senses. Out of this silence often comes an answer, a solution. Try it this week. I guarantee that if you do, you will feel better about yourself and your child.
